Peter Novitzky is an ethicist, applied philosopher specialising in responsible innovation and socio-ethical values associated to emergent technologies. Peter is an experienced post-doctoral researcher with past appointments in Europe and Singapore, working on multiple European research projects (H2020, FP7, NWO). Peter successfully completed his PhD in applied philosophy at Dublin City University (Ireland), where he specialised in the ethics of artificial intelligence for vulnerable populations. His research interests focus on the intersection of bioethics, ethics of technology, research integrity, and most recently, responsible innovation. Peter is a magna cum laude graduate of the Erasmus Mundus Master of Bioethics obtained at the consortium of Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) – Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen (Netherlands) – Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy). He also studied and performed research at Pázmány Péter Catholic University (Hungary) and Charles University in Prague (Czechia).

Samuel is a privacy and cyber/information security specialist who is passionate about creating solutions to problems affecting the society.
Samuel is able to simplify complex ideas and make it easy for people to understand and take necessary actions, resulting in positive impact on major bottom lines. His drive is to use technology to help people, communities and systems be safer.

Karan is a qualified Advocate from India. He has completed his Bachelor of Arts – Bachelor of Laws Degree (B.A LL.B) from a university in New Delhi. He has past experience of advising off-shore clients on data breach and cybersecurity incidents. He has also done various internships in India in public sector undertakings, litigation firms and at the Parliament of India. Karan has keen interest in Privacy and Data Protection issues and currently pursuing Masters in Law and Technology (LL.M) from Tilburg University, The Netherlands.

I believe in a Safe & Sound Society, which is why I am constantly looking for new ideas to make the world a safer place. Several of my ideas have already been successfully implemented worldwide. Cyber security is a growing problem and I see that most parties are trying to stop cyber crime. The weakest links are people. That’s how I came up with the idea trustable.online. A game-changing idea to encourage front-end awareness among users of apps and IOT devices as well as developers thereof. I like to invite every talent to participate in a safe digital world.

I was very excited when Jan Otten asked me to help him realize Trustable.online. With a joke I sometimes compare our enterprise with: ‘The search for an ethical algorithm’. I know, Ethics do not exist in mathematics, but the challenge to make the Internet safe and reliable for all users is an ambition that I am happy to be a part off.

I graduated in law from an Italian university in Rome and I am currently enrolled in the L.L.M. on Law & Technology at Tilburg University. I worked for two years in an Italian law firm assisting multinational companies in the process of compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation. This experience allowed me to understand the importance of the protection of personal data in the digital economy, so I was really excited to collaborate in the development of trustable.online as I share its philosophy of creating a safe digital environment for everyone.

The development of the trustable.online service platform fits perfectly well in the mission of my research group. We are committed work jointly with public organisations and IT service providers on meaningful solutions that enhance smart public safety, while empowering public-social initiatives. In doing so, we build empirical insights that fuel our research publications and our knowledge transfer for the educational programmes in our university of applied sciences. The company SafetyCity has initiated this service that is important to ‘repair the internet’ in the sense that it creates services that bring the internet back to what was once envisaged: to create a safe and open environment for citizens, entrepreneurs and public authorities who aim to work towards a better world for all.

I have over 25 years of experience with both academic research and business consultancy in the field of Community Informatics, which is about how to effectively use ICTs to make communities work. My R&D as well as consultancy work focuses on how to improve collaboration within and across organizations and networks by building, strengthening, and connecting collaborative communities. I particularly like to engage in research and implementation projects that serve a public interest: research & education, government, public libraries, culture, and the domain of social innovation, in which stakeholders from all sectors – both public and private – jointly aim to find innovative solutions for “wicked” societal problems. As such, I am very much aware that trust is everything in such complex collaborations and that trustable online technologies are a crucial necessary condition. In Callfortrust, everything comes together: it allows me to help pushing the boundaries on more responsible uses of ICTs for communities in general, and to contribute to establishing a thriving community of practice around this initiative in particular.
